Maybe we should buy a horse.

29 March, 2007

In the last post, I mentioned that our car was in the shop for much too long.  It was getting repaired after being smashed by a stupid, careless driver.  Finally, about 3 months after being hit, it was finally finished and shipped here.  So guess where it is right now?  That’s right.  In the shop.

We’ve noticed that 1. the car won’t always start the first try.  It’s pretty new, so it shouldn’t be doing that, right?  And 2. the engine is getting a bit too hot and we can smell a sort of burnt-rubber smell after driving it for a while.  That’s also bad, right?

Why are we having so many problems with that car?  That’s just wrong, right?

Ahh… relief. No, just kidding. Pokes.

27 March, 2007

As you can see, it’s been a while.  I wasn’t even able to finish my Constant Stream of Pokes.  To give you a brief idea of what it’s been like since then, I’ll give a few examples of what’s been going on:

1. We finally sold our condo, after the jerk buyer changing his mind at the last minute and switching lenders.  On the positive side, the guy who came for the second appraisal was an interesting fellow who’d met Tolkien and lived all over the world, including a part of Australia just a few minutes from where the wife used to live.

2. We got loaded.  I mean, we loaded our shipping crates, we loaded our SUV, and we loaded ourselves into the SUV and drove through wind and snow to arrive in Colorado.  Not the other kind of loaded.

3. Where was our other car, the one getting repaired, you might ask.  It wasn’t finished by the time we left (after about a month in the shop, absolutely ridiculous), but it got picked up there and trucked here.  It arrived absolutely filthy due to weather conditions, but again, the guy who drove the truck was interesting and nice, so there was that.

4. We spent two weeks in a hotel room.  The hotel was absolutely amazing and beautiful and nice, but four people in one room for two weeks wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had.  At least we had free food (the best room service we’ve ever had) and a free movie and free wifi.

5. Finally in our apartment, I tried to get my cable internet going again.  The first time I got it, I purchased it at a CompUSA, went home, connected the modem, started the software and was up and running.  This time?  I had to wait for 4 days for an installer to come.  He was here for 2 hours trying to get it to work.  It wasn’t working completely when he left.  Then it wouldn’t work at all.  Then I played around with it for a while and realized that for some reason proxy servers were enabled for all my browsers.  I disabled that, and voila.  That’s right, go ahead and say it.  You’re absolutely right.  I agree 100%.  I am a genius.

Now that life is returning to… well, I was going to say “normal” but that word rarely described my life anyway, let’s say “as normal as it gets”, I hope to entertain you more often with the tales of despair and disappointment that you’ve come to love.
