Now BOTH my eyes hurt!

29 May, 2006

Recently, our family received what is, to the best I can recollect, our first two-fingered poke. My wife was told that all managers (an exclusive group of which she is a paid member) where she works are now required to wear suits.

Now, she hasn’t been working there for very long, but when she started she purchased new clothing appropriate to the position. The first poke is that we’re being told that all that money we spent on her wardrobe was pretty much wasted (although she does look pretty darn good in that light brown jacket– yowza). The second is that we are now forced to spend even more on new clothes. The nerve! That was my hi-def flat-screen money!

The problem is, when businesses think only of the competition, they forget that it’s their employees who may suffer. And happy, satisfied employees equals happy, satisfied customers. Will anyone care that my wife is wearing a jacket and slacks instead of a suit? Somehow I doubt it. Will anyone care that we’re blowing all my flat-screen money? You bet. Well, of course I’m just kidding about the TV. The money was actually for a new laptop.

A grand pronouncement

Henceforth, let it be known that any reference on this site to “getting poked” will not be construed as something naughty or inappropriate for children. Rather, it will refer to yet another example of life’s perverse inclination to painfully annoy and/or spite our petty attempts at leading reasonably happy and productive lives.

Thank you.

And so it begins…

Why does life always poke us in the eye?

We created this blog to give us a place to vent, to complain, to point out the oddities of life.  We hope to keep a dose of humor in all our writings.  After all, getting poked in the eye is bitter, yes, but it’s the sweet bitterness of freshly-squeezed lemon juice.  Painful, yes, but the rejuvenating pain of stubbing your toe while rushing to the bathroom for an early-morning priority pee.  Depressing, yes, but… well… actually, I guess it’s just depressing.  Nevertheless, we’ll always try to see the lighter side of things.  That’s just the way we are.
